I'm a big fan of the Pomodoro Technique. It's not too often you get to work directly with the creator of a tool that has changed your life. Now that I've worked with Francesco directly, I'm an even bigger fan. I'm enthusiastic because this technique is simple and life-changing. The course helped me go into deeper related concepts built on the basic technique. Anyone who wants to streamline their day and their thinking would benefit from this tasty course. Anyone who struggles with feeling like they don't have enough time to get done what they want, whether on a daily basis or in terms of life goals, would do well to master this technique. I'm excited to see my business and life evolve with my new knowledge gained from this course.

The Pomodoro course helped me to take more realistic approach to my personal time management and gave me self-confidence to reach towards my goals. The course introduces some very useful concepts and approaches for managing complex goals and planning both one's own work effort and work in teams. I can recommend the course for everyone who wants to work more effectively and to make realistic plans for reaching complex or simple goals either personally or in teams.

Session 1: Reach Your Individual Goals // 4 hours

Why the Pomodoro Technique?

  • Where are we now? Directions so we don't get lost in the park of productivity tools

  • Nature of the Pomodoro - Measures of time versus measures of effort
  • Basic principles of the Technique, tools, process, and experimenting how to improve productivity
  • Learning Resources

The foundations of the technique in four Pomodoro:

  • Tracking: tools that transform interruptions into opportunities and practices that collect useful information to improve your productivity
  • Estimating: when and how to reduce estimation errors and meet deadlines without stress
  • Structuring your Pomodoro: practices to master
  • Scheduling: organising your day into work slots
  • Reaching goal 6 of the technique: defining and meeting new goals to improve
  • Pomodoro Rules

SESSION 2: Reach Your Complex Goals // 4 hours

Assignment feedback

Recognising complex goals:

  • Types of goals: growth and maintenance goals, routines.
  • Learning to distinguish between Goals, Deliverables and Tasks
  • Factors that increase the complexity of goals: the scope (number of tasks), the interdependency of the tasks, bottlenecks, change and uncertainty
  • Why productivity tools can make our goals more complex, why to do lists aren't good enough to reach complex goals, and why they more often than not increase complexity

Pomodoro Planning: Learning to organise and reach your complex goals

  • The Picnic Metaphor - you will learn to reduce and organise the complexities of any goal as if it were a picnic
  • The Ping Pong Metaphor - you will learn how to make estimations about a complex project
  • The Garden Metaphor - you will learn to look after and keep your goals under control to reduce the risk of "complexity escalation"
  • You will learn to distinguish different types of task: different tasks require different behaviours and different organisational solutions
  • We will reduce the complexity of a goal by splitting it: splits per value vs. splits per effort. How to adjust the rule of the 7 Pomodoro
  • You will learn how to know exactly what to do at a given time: organising time into Pomodoro Slots
  • You will apply Pomodoro estimating and tracking to identify and manage activities whose complexity you are underestimating

  • Do you really know how to organise a complex goal like a picnic? Let’s give it a try (to be submitted by session 4)

Assignment feedback

Q&A Productivity Clinic

  • The Pomodoro Technique has been organically adopted by thousands of people across the world because it is so simple to use. When it comes to team dynamics or reaching complex goals, the technique can be manipulated in different ways depending on the scenario. Many participants of the course often have specific questions, usually variations of "How can I apply the technique when…?" To cater for this, two hours of this session will be given over to a structured Q&A session working through your questions and queries.
